Progress (http://www.progressonline.org.uk/) a Labour thinktank of sorts is proposing a freeze on stamp duty on houses valued under £1m for the rest of 2009 and the offer of a £1,000 tax credit to home buyers.

While this may sound well intentioned, it seems that there is no recognition within the Labour party that they let house prices get out of control to the detriment of the economy and society. This proposal seems to be more about re-election of the Labour party rather than assisting the priced out.

Their popularity was built on house price hyper inflation and they haven't yet been weaned off it. It's a shame because the Labour party seems like the most likely candidate for a better society but actions speak louder than words.
