Maybe I am being completely stupid or simplistic here but I can't understand this.

There's 2 groups of people.

1. People who can't get on the ladder or move up it as prices are too high
2. People who would put into negative equity if prices were lower

If there are more people in group 1 than group 2 why don't the government just make prices lower and help out the people in group 2.

Instead of what they are doing which seems to be to spite everyone in group 1 for the sake of group 2!

What am I missing?

What are you missing?

1/ It would cost too much

2/ If it was in the governments interests to do it they would simply raise interest rates and create a crash.

See my post re affordable housing maybe we could come to an arrangement.
