There is as far as I know no general documented literature or information on the main private residential Rental Blocks in London. We have read many years ago on certain blocks of flats or rooms being involved in scandals of one sort or another.Perhaps a Van Hoog Straten type situation? But information is scanty and not updated. By major residential block I mean a large say 30+individual residents black of private accommodation that tends to dominate an area as opposed to a converted house or whatever. And let on short term basis with a high churnover rate as opposed to owner occupiers. To start the ball rolling I would cite what I know about the Park West series of rented apartments along the Edgeware Road in London, these very large blocks were built a stones throw from Marble Arch in The 1960s with the intention of providing after campus destinations say for the newly graduated from modern UK Universities. If this had come about a lively posh sensible community in the heart of Londons' West End would have developed. However as soon as the speculators got in it all went horribly wrong as usual. The flats were instead rented at enormous rents to Middle Eastern Buisness men etc.mainly Kuwaitis, and their extensive family members who joined them coutesy of the British Social Security system. There main occupation sitting smoking pipes in cafes or eating ice cream! Oh and another category of tenant-prostitutes who found the high rents affordable and the flats a useful base for their activities. The flats are in a poor state of repair, entry phones jam and cockroaches may be present.Obviously not the place to start a family or try to live decently. Right any more such complexes known about?
