For anyone who is still questioning houses are on the downward spiral of the rollercoaster:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1930019/Estate-agencies-shut-150-branches-a-week.html

"This led to warnings yesterday that unless banks and building societies increase lending to mortgage applicants, worse may be to come."

I couldn't believe my eyes the other day when I saw a new EA being installed. I saw a guy with an electirc srewdriver in his hand and thought that he must have been taking the sign down, but no, this company think that now is the ideal time to get into business. They had one house in there window but had to put duplicate it many times to make it look like they were doing business. I give them six months max.

I have only seen one independent agent close down in my area.

But the windows do have a few more 'sold' properties in the window compared to six month ago.

But too many new agents have opened up over the past few years, so if a few close down it is not a bad thing. Nice to see new shops open in place.

The internet sites, -like rightmove etc. must have taken some business away from their "shop window" services.

My EA friend is saying things look really bad in his neck of the woods (Cornwall). He's commercial rather than residential but is expecting to lose his job in the not too distant future.

Unfortunate, but there are plenty of other sales related vacancies around I'd expect.

Update from the front line, my EA friend mentioned above has just been made redundent. Its not all bad anyway as he said he was thinking of leaving anyway, apparently their morals are a bit dubious and the job was rubbish.
