EXCLUSIVE:Not from the domain of any media news story:
A large piece of overgrown derelict land adjoining Brentford Riverside,London, ear marked for luxury riverside flat development and displaying architects impressions on huge colour boards of the exciting plan appears to have been abandoned!
Most of the boards have dissappeared. But the weed covered land remains fenced
but untouched.
This has been the case for nearly 2-3 years now.
The flats were to sell for £100,000s pounds.
Already a Marina and some other flats have been erected against much local
opposition positioned as it is near a large run down Council Estate.
Resentment is high and the opposition of the Council dwellers has been less than gentlemanly to the "incomers"in this last undiscovered corner of London.

There's a couple of near completed developments near me too, one with a huge sign down one block proudly exclaiming that the entire block is already sold! The other development only a few minutes walk from the first is offering 100% flats for 75% of the price, circa £130k. Nobody in their right minds would consider purchasing at these sorts of prices.

I think that when flats are abandoned like this, Housing Associations and Councils should be allowed to compulsarily purchase the properties (at a discounted rate if need be), finish them off and rent them to people on the housing waiting lists.

For these types of properties, priority should be given to working singles and couples who are on modest salaries rather than the Vicki Pollard types and scroungers.

Im a bit uneasy with just handing these flats to Housing Associations and Charities. Its the charities who are the real scroungers in our Nation. Many of them are highly politicised now almost exclusively in a Politically Correct way. They ae inept managers and do not represent a fair and equal distribution of properties. How many times have you been hassled by a "Chugger"in the High Street looking for easy handouts? How many posters greedily asking for "your old mobile phone for free"or "Foreign currency for free"so it can be sent to "Africa"(Zimbabwe?).
Tarkus you yourself are exhibiting worse predujice by vaguely referring to a group of people you call "Vicky Pollard"types and "scroungers.
Im not sure how many you include in this category maybe 4 million unemployed?
I dont know who Vicky Pollard is but suspect she is some sort of Television Comedy characters that you have come across when lazing around watching TV?
You seem to have adopted your ideas on this matter from newspapers like the Sun and may be easily led.?
Do you include "Freegans""Squatters""Environmentalists"and "Nudists"amongst your list?
What about homeless people,"Beggars",Winos","The mentally ill"?
Since you dont know for sure whats even going on beyond the end of your street you cant judge these people or deny them housing.
You seem to prefer instead it goes to "Job scroungers"like minimum wage serfs
stacking rip off yoghurts  in Sainsburys so they can be sold to the public at %50 higher prices than France?Scrounging a job out of peoples hard earned money.
Or so called "workers"for Local Authority who spend all day lazing about at a desk doing practically nothing and getting Rate Payers money for it?
Or recently arrived Somali Third World escapees looking for a free Somalis Only Housing Asscoation luxury flat?
Re-think your ideas to get back in line with mainstream public opinion!

OK Lazen, I admit that I am politically incorrect! My family members are worse than me!

I still think that properties stuck in a state of limbo should still be passed over to providers of affordable housing. However, I will retract my point regarding to whom these properties should be offered to - they should be offered to those who are most likely to pay the rent and take care of the property. Although the demand for property sales have fallen, there is still a very strong demand for housing.

As for letting these low wage earners excercise their Right To Buy the property at a discount, I think that this should be disallowed. Besides, I thought RTB was quite unfashionable now that the discounts have been cut.
