The Quality of life has always
taken a back seat to Tax Rebates, transportation issues, available incentives
etc. But slowly the citizens are understanding the importance of a good quality
of living. Recreation is becoming a more significant quality-of-life issue,
because people spend more time outdoors and planning weekend activities than
they used to. More and more people visit cinemas, play squash, walk in the
country parks, watch football or a performance in theatre etc. These are the
things that everyone should be able to do, if they wish, wherever they live.
Quality of Life Coalition is an
organization that is dedicated to developing the quality of life of the people
of Houston. It is an effort to enhance the lifestyle of the residents of
Houston. The organization was founded by Mr. Dick Weekley of the Weekley
Development Company. Mr. Weekley is also the CEO and Chairman of the Texas for
Lawsuit Reforms. He has been active in community affairs, servicing on the
Board of Great Houston Partnership, The Metropolitan YMCA, and the executive
committee of the Governor’s Business Council.
The Quality of Life Coalition was
developed to effect changes for the implementation of the Quality of Life
Agenda, for the benefit of those living in Houston. The Quality of Life agenda
is all about recognizing the potential of improving the Quality of life of the
citizens of Houston. This is of great importance as Houston’s prosperity
depends on the improved lifestyle of its inhabitants. This can be done by a
number of ways. The coalition has identified four ways to improve the lifestyle
and achieve this. It has found four areas of action, which are:
1. Trees & Landscaping
2. Parks & Recreation
3. Billboards & Signage
4. Litter & Graffiti
