One thing that bother me about this housing boom, is that at a time when house prices where rising and people were willing to pay any prices. So did we miss the greatest opportunity to fit solar heating/wind power to our housing stock?.
I mean lets say if the government said that anyone who sells or buy a property must be fit eco features, then it would have done wonders for our environment.
Though it could have applied this law to say properties over a certain value e.g. 200k. I doubt it would have made much difference to the price of a property. So if you bought a flat for 200k, it would not have increased added to the prices, so no extra burden to the buyer..... It costs about 3k to fit some of the basics.
And it would have been good for the economy as well, as we would not be reliant on oil/gas etc....
I don't think I explained the original argument too well.... I think this is where I disagree with pricedout.org.uk because it is is a self-centric cause, rather then looking at a holistic approach.
For instance, I remember people saying lets turn over farmland to housing... now look at food prices... and we depend on a lot of our food from overseas.....
