| Hi all,
I have read today that the house price percentage increase in December has reached double figures.
Of course, this is totally ridiculous and if this keeps going (which is anticipated to be the case in 2007), we may as well all give up and go home (not that we'll have homes). I think Priced Out has done a smashing job in the time it's been around but it is about time we all faced facts and realised that we are not going to get what we want. House prices are going to continue to spiral and there is going to be a generation of us with total uncertainty about our dwellings. I have come to realise that I will never own a property, despite being under the foolish impression that leaving school and working hard was the prerequisite for this. It isn't and in simple terms nothing can be done to own a property anymore. I have a very good job for my area (25k, Essex) and cannot afford anything. I have been told by Moat and also local Government that my industry (Automotive manufacturing, design and engineering) is not critical to the economy and therefore, I do not qualify for any schemes that are on offer. I am presently studying for a degree in my industry and intend to complete it even if there will be no place for me in the future plans of the country or the economy. Right now the future is just so uncertain. I had begun saving for a deposit at around £500 per Month, but this will not even offset the market growth. It's highly probable that the £6000 I would save in a year would be negated by a greater increase in prices over the same period. I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I wish all of you the best of luck for the future. You never know, I may even see you down the local homeless center next Christmas.
Priced Out, as I said, a superb job of getting the support you have but it's like going out to Iraq as a one man fighting force with a catapult. No one will notice you and no one really cares that you are there.
John.
