I get e-mails from www.theyworkforyou.com every time Dr Wright speaks in parliament...it seems I my letter may have had some impact:

Written Answers - Communities and Local Government: Council Housing: Cannock Chase (5 Mar 2007)

Tony Wright: To ask the Secretary of State for Communities and Local
Government how many units of social housing were available in the
Cannock Chase district in  (a) 1997 and  (b) the last 12 months

It appears that during nine years of Labour government, the social housing stock in Cannock Chase constituency (an area where prices are rocketing due to people being outpriced in larger areas like Birmingham, and instead looking to live further afield and willing to commute, so an increasing population) has decreased from 8,294 in 1997 to 6,994 in 2006, a decrease of 1,300 and in percentage terms around 16%. If this is typical of England as a whole, then we see the problem.

I would like to thank Dr Wright for raising the issue. Now he has seen the figures, he needs to make a judgement. Let's see if this goes anywhere.
