The other day we decided to try an experiment-missing our favourite British Newsagents-Martins'Newsagents(who are almost exclusively staffed by young UK British schoolleavers-we like this as it gives young working class girls the chance of a job)-we decided to search within a 20 mile radius of central London for one where we could get a "top up"from the hand of a cheerful friendly comfortable old school British Newsagents and perhaps a chat in impeccable English.
We were-unable to find one.Of 25 that we tried every single one was owned and staffed by a "Foreign looking"gentleman or "Lady"whos prescence made us feel naturally a little "uneasy" about handing our money to them.
They didnt seem to appreciate it and appeared greedy and uncaring when they practically snatched it.We felt rarther soured.
Additionally they were often out of our favourite services for example the photocopier seemed to be pereniilly broken down.
As children we fondly remember old Mr Cruikshank who used to sell sweets with personal service.
Eventually we discovered for what we searched-in New Addington of all places! Some 30 miles South of Charing Cross!Martins THE Newsagent!
Business done we pondered about transferring our "Top Up"custom on a permanent basis to Martins or similiar.
And perhaps our Supermarket custom too to an area that gave young British Schooleavers a chance.
Perhaps friends could get all their cards "topped up"too in bundles while we were at it and some OAPs might appreciate cans of soup from "British Empire"Old Style
Stores where the traditional ethic had not been lost?
What effect would this have on the poor Inner City Districts economy where we were forced to reside?
Would it accelerate the already decline?
A man on the radio spoke the Govts.'fears about this in what he described the "bounce"and "Concentration"effect in relation to Bank deposit moving.
Meanwhile the MONOPOLY in this country on NEWSAGENTS BUSINSSES needs LOOKING INTO and perhaps referring to THE MONOPOLIES COMMISSION?

There could be a similar situation with post offices and a few other places. Non-Indians in Indian restaurants/take-aways?

Hallo Sliced Cake.Yes there could be though the example you cite Indian Restaurants is perhaps not really applicable. It seems reasonable to me that a certain ethnic restaurant should employ all staff of one ethnicity. However there are too many ethnic restaurants "milking it"by which I mean providing bog standard copy cuisine to large Office Groups on expense accounts especially in Croydon which seems to be stuffed with them.
Take the French example where all ethnic restaurants are confined-in the main-to one street of a town like in Lille instead of all over the place-this however is a planning and commercial control issue locally.
No a service such as a Post Office which is a National Service for all citizens ought not to dominated by one particular favouristised ethnicity.I am sure Chinese or Polish people feel as aggrieved that this service in some parts has the appearence of being the private domain of one particular ethnicity as anyone else.
One may balk at a small sub office with perhaps one or two staff but when you enter a Large National Retail chain with perhaps as many as 30-40 tills (eg.ASDA Park Royal)and everyone of the staff on those tills is of identical ethnic appearance then questions really do need to by asked if fair and equal employment policy is being applied in that store?
Do certain ethnicties have a special touch for running grocery concerns or Post Offices above others?I doubt it.
True there are plenty of stores where the opposite is the case ie. the majority of the staff are nearly all Caucasian and its also the case in many schools.
The awnser is that its best to employ persons best suited in every respect for the job in appearence, language comprehension and "bonding"with the richest customers.
Employment of low quality staff can only be detrimental to a business
