Yesterday (January 14th) we replied to a government consultation on planning reform.
Government proposed to allow additional stories to be added to buildings to be used for housing without planning permission.
This is a good idea. We need to build at least 300,000 homes a year, every year, focused in high demand areas to have any hope of improving the housing crisis in the long term.
But these proposals don't go nearly far enough. Our response asks why a discretionary and politicised approval process is necessary for every single new home we build.
